Red Father Screening On June 4th

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society, the Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul, the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers, the University of Minnesota Center for Jewish Studies, the Federal Bar Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association and the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota present a film screening of

Red Father

Red Father tells the story of attorney Bernard Ades' struggle against legal racism. Mr. Ades also later fought fascism in Spain and was black-listed. The film features Bernard's daughter, Janet, who reflects on his legacy and questions his ideology.

Following the film, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota Michael J. Davis will lead a discussion on the issues raised by the documentary.

Interactive Museum Website on Jewish Figurines in Poland

Erica Lehrer wrapped up our public lecture series before enthusiastic audiences at Congregation Beth Jacob and the Weisman Art Museum. Lehrer spoke of the revival of interest in Polish Jewry, and presented her fascinating museum exhibition on Jewish figurines in present-day Poland. She has an interactive website on the exhibition, which invites the reader to examine and react to these artifacts. We encourage you to check it out:

Celebrate Jewish Heritage Month with the Upper Midwest Jewish Archives

The St. Paul JCC is hosting a reception in celebration of Jewish Heritage Month. Assistant archivist Kate Dietrick will highlight the history of the Upper Midwest Jewish Archives, followed by St. John's Professor Emerita Annette Atkins, who will give the keynote address. The event is on Thursday, May 28th, 6:30-9:00 p.m. Registration is requested by May 21st.
